December 2008

I discovered earlier this week that Mike Huckabee was visiting the Barnes and Noble in Lynchburg today to promote - and autograph - his new book, Do the Right Thing.
.
The visit was covered by the local ABC station, WSET.

4:46 pm
I left work early and ran over to get into line.
First I had to get in line just to buy a book.
.
5:10 pm
Now with my 3 books, I got into line.
.
5:50 pm
Mike was scheduled to sign from 5:30 pm until 6:30 pm
but didn't arrive until now.
.
5:50 pm
The line behind me extended all the way around the building.
.
6:30 pm
Even after making it into the building, there was quite a wait.
The rumor going through the line was that
Mike averages more than 500 books per hour.
.
6:45 pm
After two hours, I met Mike; he shook my hand and signed my books.
.
Here's Mike and I during our exchange.
That's me in the University of Virginia jacket.
It isn't mine; I was in such a rush that I left my jacket and had to borrow one from a friend.
.
The Bus. Pretty swank.
If I'd wanted to stand in another line, they were giving bus tours.
.
6:55 pm
The line waiting behind when I left.
